Graduate Internship Program – U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York offers a limited number of unpaid graduate-level internships during the spring, summer, and fall semesters. These positions provide current graduate and advanced undergraduate students with exposure to the daily operations of a premier federal law enforcement agency in New York City.
Internship opportunities are available within the Special Agent Program, including the Digital Forensics Unit and the all-source analysis CASE Team. This program is well-suited for students pursuing degrees in criminal justice, law, forensics, cybersecurity, intelligence, homeland security, international affairs, accounting, and related fields.
In addition to team assignments, interns participate in professional development sessions, including “brown-bag” discussions on various aspects of the Office’s work.

Applicants must submit a completed application form and resume (PDF format) via email to usanys.grad.intern@usdoj.gov. Resumes must include GPA (minimum 3.0) and anticipated graduation date.
Application windows:
Summer: February 1–15
Fall: May 1–31
Spring: September 1–30

Program Commitment
All internships are in-person, typically at an offsite law enforcement location near Manhattan.
Summer: Minimum 40 hours/week for 8 weeks (June–August)
Spring/Fall: Minimum 16 hours/week (January–April; September–December)
Qualifications
The Office seeks high-achieving, motivated students with a strong interest in public service. Applicants should demonstrate sound judgment, time management skills, and a willingness to learn. Prior experience is not required, though relevant experience should be highlighted.
Requirements:
Current enrollment in a degree program
U.S. citizenship (dual citizens eligible)
Successful completion of a background investigation and DOJ security clearance
Recent illegal drug use (within the past 12 months) may disqualify applicants.
Program Overview
CASE Team: Focuses on analyzing and visualizing digital evidence for litigation. Interns work with data from phones, social media, financial records, and cloud systems, using tools such as Cellebrite and Penlink PLX.
Digital Forensics Unit: Conducts forensic analysis of digital evidence and supports cybercrime investigations. Interns gain hands-on experience with forensic tools (e.g., Cellebrite, Axiom, GrayKey) and evidence-handling procedures, while collaborating with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners.
