Paid Health Educator Role in Smoking Cessation Project in Queens
The Northwell Health Center for Global Health, in partnership with Long Island Jewish Forest Hills, is seeking Health Educators for Achieving Tobacco-Free Lives, Accessing Support–Little Guyana (ATLAS-LG) — a 24-month community-based smoking cessation education program funded by Global Action to End Smoking.
This initiative will train Health Educators to deliver culturally tailored, evidence-based smoking cessation education to adults in the Richmond Hill/Little Guyana and Forest Hills communities. The role is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in public health, health education, and community engagement.
Position Details:
- Start Date: November 2025 (training begins in October 2025)
- Hours: Part Time, 10 hrs. per week; some evenings and weekends required
- Pay: $30/hr.
- Location: Queens, New York with the ability to travel to local sites if needed (in-person with some virtual components)
Responsibilities:
- Lead interactive smoking cessation workshops
- Provide culturally sensitive education and participant support
- Collaborate with peer navigators, healthcare providers, and community partners
- Complete training in cessation strategies, motivational interviewing, and cultural competency
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate senior or graduate student in public health, health sciences, social work, psychology, nursing, or related field (or recent graduate)
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
- Interest in community health and tobacco cessation
- Bilingual skills in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, or Spanish is a plus
